One complaint commonly voiced about retractable systems is that they exert constant force on the individual workers back and lock up with sudden
movements. By using a static line system with travel restraint, SOME use of retractables can be eliminated.
** This worker had the right idea, but still put himself in a potential fall situation
because of swing radius. The worker was counseled and retrained . When using any system proper care and training must be provided to eliminate all fall hazards.
When a deck Ancorage point is required several options are available. Above
left was a product that was found on one of our jobsites that locks around the joists or beams, a hole is then cut through the decking and a the clamp
protrudes approximately six inches creating a tripping hazard (this product also weighs about 10 lbs., it was apparent why it was not being used when I found
it. On the right is what SAFE-T-STRAP calls their "Low Rise Strap". Although not shown, there is a ring on this strap and the strap can be
Nailed to the deck using four sixteen penny nails and ensuring the nails are
driven into a joist or beam. This picture demonstrates that after its use as a deck anchorage point the lowrise strap can be reused in certain applications
such as a truss or top plate anchorage point. * When used as a deck anchorage point the strap and ring lay flat, minimizing trip hazards.
